“As I sit on our plane home, devouring yet another fascinating book on this extraordinary country we have just visited, I wanted to take a moment to write and say that honestly, this has been an exceptional trip. 

No detail was spared by you in making sure we all had a truly wonderful adventure. I am certain it wasn’t always easy - tourism in Colombia being in it’s infancy, that wonderful Latino charm no doubt challenged your patience at times - but you kept that hidden from us all and we happily wandered about, blissfully ignorant of any hurdles or upsets. It was completely brilliant. Simply too many highlights to list them all - albeit drinking beer and eating deep fried whatevers under a motorway … now that was something special!"

The travel and trip was ridiculously well organised and seamless -  from the pick up from Pereira to an insane seven days split exploring such different ecosystems and staying in such remote places. We really felt like we were fully off grid which was an unforgettable experience.

"First of all, I would like to emphasize once again that overall we had a very enjoyable trip. It was well planned and organized, and gave us many positive impressions—more than we had expected. Despite some initial concerns about safety, we never really felt restricted or threatened, as long as certain basic precautions were observed. This should in no way diminish or call into question our overall positive impression.

Of the six hotels we stayed in, Las Islas in Barú was simply outstanding—not only in terms of accommodation and restaurants, but especially because of the friendliness and helpfulness of the entire staff. We also felt very comfortable in the lodges/hotels in Villa de Leyva, in the coffee region, and in Medellín.

Overall, we had four guides/scouts. The two guides in the coffee region and in Medellín were excellent.

"What a lovely surprise. Many thanks for the excellent wine that was waiting for us far away from home in Salento. The vegetarian food turned out not to be a problem at all. There was a very good standard vegetarian menu (without any special request), almost even better than the special order, since that one is always vegan.

Now to the most important part: the trip so far has been absolutely wonderful and exactly as we had imagined it. Julia Kämmer here in Colombia is also doing a fantastic job. She is always reachable and quickly arranged an alternative flight for us when the original one was cancelled.

We can only express our sincere thanks to all of you and are of course very hopeful and confident that the second part of our journey will seamlessly continue just as well as the first.

"We want to express our absolute delight with our recent trip to Colombia. Everything was incredibly well organized, and the people we met along the way made the experience unforgettable.

In Bogotá, Hermaun was a fantastic guide who made the most of every minute. He took us to the vibrant fruit and flower market and introduced us to a variety of local foods. Juan Di Carrillo met us at the Inirida airport and was instrumental in preparing us for our journey to the Remanso & Venada Indigenous villages. We then traveled down the Inirida and Orinoco Rivers by boat to our native accommodation. The people in the village were incredibly kind and caring. Havier took us to see the sunset and shared local stories, while Juan translated.

One of the highlights was a hike up the mountain with Nigel. Stephen went swimming in the Orinoco River, and we even went looking for pink dolphins.

In Neiva, Abel greeted us warmly at the airport. The next day, we met Martha at the San Agustin Macizo sculptures Park, where she guided us through the incredible stone carvings dating back to 400 BC. Later that day, we went horseback riding with Sergio. Even though Mary had no prior experience, Sergio made sure she was comfortable. Abel continued as our guide, and with Brian as our driver, we visited Tirradentro Park where Elver took us through a museum and explained the history of the tombs. On our way to the airport, a mudslide blocked the road and Brian made every effort to get us through. Despite missing our flight, we’re grateful for how quickly you arranged new accommodations and flights for the next day. The visit to Vereda La Playa and meeting María José and her family was a wonderful experience.

Finally, Raphael met us in Cartagena and brought us to our hotel. We later visited Tayrona National Park, where the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Thank you once again, Diana, for organizing such a remarkable and memorable trip."

"We have now been back here in Germany for a few days. The trip through Colombia was really, really great!! For all three of us, it was even much better than expected!

A bit of specific feedback: Overall, we were especially positively surprised by the people—everyone we met was very friendly, courteous, and above all relaxed and easygoing!

I had actually been to Colombia twice 20–30 years ago, but I couldn’t really remember the people that well anymore. I also used to think that Peruvians, Ecuadorians, and Colombians were more or less alike. But there are definitely bigger differences—Colombians are simply more pleasant to be around (no matter where we were on the trip). Of course, there are probably a few “bad apples” as well. But our impression after two weeks is extremely positive. If you live there like you do, or stay for several months, it might feel a bit different.

Hotels:

• Bogotá, Armenia, Medellín — all top! 
• All three guides on the tours (Christian in the coffee region, Esteban ??? (forgot the name) in Tayrona—both excellent on the private tours!)
  But Alexander on the tour with 40 people to Guatapé was also very good!! And the tour itself—you could hardly tell there were so many people! 

Domestic flights and bus journeys within the country were also all very good!

Your country should be visited by many more people! I hope I can help contribute to that in the future."

"The trip and the itinerary were very well organized, and the route was well chosen! It was also manageable for our guests without any major effort.

Special praise goes to our tour guide Cesar Olarte, who accompanied us from Bogotá all the way to the beach hotel in Cartagena! Not only did he fulfill all the wishes of our participants as much as possible, but he also immediately integrated himself into the group. The other local guides were also good.

The hotels were in line with the usual national standards. The only negative exception was the Hotel Campestre Café Café, which was added to the program at the last minute. The grounds themselves were very beautiful, but the rooms did not live up to that standard at all. Even worse was the buffet on offer—which wasn’t really a buffet, as the food was strictly portioned and served onto plates by the staff. Getting a second helping, if desired, was not possible. Fortunately, we only had to eat dinner there once. By the way, breakfast was just as minimal.
I cannot recommend this hotel in any way.

Finally, a note about the Hotel Estelar Playa Manzanillo, where we enjoyed our relaxing days by the sea. The buildings probably date back to the 1970s, constructed in concrete and somewhat reminiscent of the architectural style of the former GDR. It is a well-maintained, beautiful complex with a quiet pool and another for activities, as well as a short walk to the sea. The rooms are enormous—a living room of an estimated 30 m², and a bedroom with bathroom of similar size. It was great that guests could choose between four restaurants, with a huge variety of food available.

In summary: a very well-organized trip, with only one outlier in terms of hotel quality!"

“We have now been back in cool Switzerland for almost a week — quite a contrast to the hot and humid Cartagena. We truly enjoyed Colombia and were also very satisfied with the guides — Tomas in Bogotá, Claudia in Medellín, and Jerry in Santa Marta. It was a truly enriching experience. Thank you very much for your organization. Everything worked perfectly with the transfers and return flight.
